It's that time again - the long summer holidays!!

The kids break up from school today and at 12 and 14 (well nearly 15) all they really want is for me to drive them here, there and everywhere, but I'd like to have some fun with them too! I'd normally suggest the beach but it's grey again today. I think we'll go to the cinema to see Ice Age 4 - that'll be a laugh - but what else can I do????

Any suggestions gratefully received - from a harassed Mum - Sylvia xxx

oh,good luck on that one, teens eh!,mine are in their late 20's now but i remember those days,i had a big house/garden then and i usually ended up with all the kids at mine,ie son and daughter had their tents up one each end of garden and it was great i did do alot of bbq and bike rides back then, the beach/country run was a favourite we could bike ride to do that imagine me with about 13/14 children and all very well behaved i add,but i always had a few craft days even with the boys, and some time out with videos/snacks, now it computors and mobile phones (mums not included )so grown up these days, alot of the mums would come for coffee,so glad mine now work but we still have nice days out, dorothy

Hi Dorothy - that sounds really nice! My 3 girls all ride at a big yard, so they'll spend lots of time doing horsey stuff and they've got a great bunch of friends there too. We had a good chat yesterday and they suggested lots of things to do (most would be better if we had some sun!!), so it sounds as if I'll be pretty busy this year.

Sun is shining today, so we're off out to a friend's farm to have some fun with her pony. Well, I'll just be watching of course, but hopefully there'll be tea and biscuits too!

Cheers - Sylvia xx

I'm glad those days are over for me! Mine are 29,21 & 19 now. My daughter was saying the same thing as you the other day as hers are 7, 4 and 18 months and it's the older one that always wants entertaining. If the weather improves i would suggest a picnic at the park. Maybe some cooking of cakes in doors if not and if you can manage a bike ride somewhere.

Have fun.

Love Shirley x

LOL Hi Sylvia

My daughter breaks up from school today! Her first year at school over....time gone fast!
We haven't got plans at the moment, I have been ordering an amazon box every week for my daughter and her dad! Thankyou for "helping" me since my foot operation. She excited when it arrives, I have chosen things from crayola felt tip pens to colouring books! Yesterday she got disney tangled puzzle with 100 pieces to keep her busy. Also I bought her first joke book to read to her (she disagrees with the punchline)! So sweet!
We have her camping table and chair in my bedroom to do craft.
Got lots of peppa pig dvd's (little kids pleasures).......now and again!

My friend's daughter let's us visit their horse, he enjoys his carrots and apples! Luckily she has not asked for one yet!

We shall go to national trust as members, luckily we have not had the 'I'm bored'......when she gets older! Some national trusts have little boxes in rooms for little kids to try clothing on and pretend to clean brass like the old times with a cloth and silver plate.
The best national trust we all visited last year was corfe castle Dorset, so proud that I climbed all the way to the top!! We stayed at campsite by airmens cross and walked for 10mins or so to the airmens cross steam railway. We went on a steam train to swanage and walked around the town. There is a lovely shop in Swanage town sells candles, lavender bags, nick nack bits, my daughter has a little yellow duck that lights up in water! Feeling hungry by then we all had scrummy fresh fish and chips! Walked on the sand then walked back to the station to catch steam train back to airmens cross station and walked back to the campsite! What a truly lovely break that was! And dogs could go on the swanage trains!
The memories of last year!
We had an adria motorhome for 2 adults, two dogs and my daughter. We have sold it sadly for more room and to get a second car so my husband does not have to bike to work in all weathers and have a car for recyling bits for the skip, and he doing his share of school runs! Have been looking for a caravan (little person says must have bunk bed for her) my wish is for loo, kitchen area and comfy seating area. We are so fussy in what we like and the layout for the money we can afford! Been online and seen one, but the dealer has caravans on shingle, my husband does not want to 2 visit yet in case I stumble on the shingle and damage my rods in foot. I said I come, you two go in and take lots of photos.......he isn't convinced (I try to be practical and offer ways round things)!
I miss camping, feel a holiday by the sea in much need once the pins are out! We belong to the caravan club for when we had our motorhome - really lovely clean loos and showers and easy access for mobility reasons.
My daughter got a childrens cook book - I shall let her decide what to bake! She has a few aprons to choose from!
She loves going on weekend walks with her dad and the dogs up the hills, or where she tells her dad!!
I know as she gets older the thought of hanging out with the parents isn't cool, but I'm enjoying the time together - I take lots of photos to look back on.
Roll on a holiday!

Weather people keep saying its going to warm up!
Enjoy the sun everyone!

Way to go Jane!!! Your life sounds as busy as mine - it's like a drug isn't it, the more you do the more you have to do! I like cooking with the girls but they are now old enough to cook by themselves - so all those hours spent in the kitchen are now paying off as I can leave them in charge of stuff and know that it'll still be edible! And it's no longer just high-calorie cakes and biscuits, they finally know how to cook a decent plate of pasta and all the trimmings.

I used to enjoy camping but my 2nd hubby was never too fond of any discomfort and had been seduced by comfy beds, so we tend to stay in hotels. Although we do both talk about having a camper van when we retire and do the freedom, travelling thing - still a dream of mine .....

Take care - Sylvia xx

ThumpUp LOL Hiya Sylvia

What a fantastic dream!
Be great if I could just go on one big tour!!
Once caravan sorted, we go away in school holidays, like you - we would like to get a campervan and just go off for a while. I would love to go up to Scotland first.......and enjoy the scenery, who knows were the adventure will take us (dam, must remember the ra pills)!

School finishing now!
Our 6 weeks starts!!!

Whatever you all do, enjoy!! those early years are to be treasured. Now I love spending time with my 6 grandchildren. I am very lucky that we live so close and I see them so often. We do loads of crafting, " 1000 things to make and do", by Osbourne, brilliant. I love books and so do they, so we have lots of stories. One of my daughters has recently bought a ford transit mini bus, seats 9, which is great for days out. I just love the Summer holidays, so much to do and see!

Have a good time all, Zena x.

Oh Zena - that sounds so lovely! I really miss having little ones around (I got terribly broody just a couple of years back - hee hee - way too old now!!!) - I would love a grandchild but my kids have lots more growing up to do, so I'll just have to make do with one grand-nephew and the toddlers who come with their mums to Slimming World group.

We're going for an impromptu picnic this evening, just because the sun s shining. There's some woods nearby with a stream that we can paddle in and a field to play games, so we'll all have fun. I woke up feeling really weary but now that I've rung a few friends and put up an event on FB, I now feel really enthusiastic about having some fun with my girls and their friends - and we'll just take a few sandwiches and a pork pie so it'll be easier than cooking dinner!! Must remember the chairs and suncream!!!
